Things to Do in Engelberg and on the Titlis
Engelberg sits at the base of the Titlis, and the mountain is the reason most people come: the Rotair, the world's first rotating cable car, turns 360 degrees on the final stretch up to 3,020 metres. A return ticket runs to roughly CHF 96 from Engelberg, less with rail passes, and the summit has snow most of the year along with an ice cave cut into the glacier. The Cliff Walk, Europe's highest suspension bridge at the top station, is free once you're up there and takes about five minutes to cross if your nerve holds. Engelberg village itself is a modest monastery town, worth an hour before or after the mountain rather than a destination on its own. From Zurich it's about 75-90 minutes by train with one change in Lucerne.
