Things to Do in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is a microstate you can walk across in an afternoon, and most visitors come specifically to say they've been. Vaduz, the capital, has a small old town beneath the Prince's castle, which is still a private residence and not open to the public beyond its exterior view from town. The tourist office in Vaduz sells a souvenir passport stamp for a few francs, unofficial since Liechtenstein has no border control of its own within Schengen, but a popular novelty regardless. Beyond the castle view and a couple of small museums, there isn't a great deal to fill a full day here. The usual route from Zurich is by train to Sargans (about an hour), then a short bus across the border to Vaduz, making it a half-day add-on rather than a destination in its own right.
