Things to Do in Lauterbrunnen

Lauterbrunnen valley has 72 waterfalls dropping from sheer cliffs, and you don't need a ticket or a guide to see the main ones from the valley floor. Staubbach Falls plunges almost 300 metres right behind the village and is visible on the short walk from the train station. Trümmelbach Falls, a series of ten glacier-fed waterfalls inside the mountain, does charge admission (around CHF 14) and is worth it precisely because it's not visible from outside. The valley is also the access point for Mürren and Wengen, both car-free villages reached by cable car or train, each with its own view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Lauterbrunnen works well as a quieter, cheaper base than Interlaken or Grindelwald, with the same mountains on your doorstep.
